They \noften found that there was a vacuum leak at the seal behind the TPS \n(Throttle Position Sensor) -- or one of the other three seals. These \nseals are not available from Ducati, nor are they even on the market! \nWorse, the only option for the customer was to buy new throttle bodies \nfrom Ducati, which normally cost more than $2,000.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eCA Cycleworks is again the innovator. We scoured the industrial \nmarketplace and found that these seals are mash-ups of two other seals, \nbut no one made this exact size. We sought the help of seal \nmanufacturers across the US and ended up having to go to Canada to find \nsomeone willing to get the job done. As always, CA Cycleworks uses \nbest-of-industry practice and had these made in Viton. Dimensions are \n8mm ID, 0.450\" OD, and 0.150\" thickness.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eReplacing these seals is not a simple job. We recommend that home \nmechanics seek out a technician who has experience disassembling \nthrottle bodies and installing these seals. Or, you can buy a used set \nof throttle bodies from eBay and rebuild them with these seals.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eTo test if your seals need replacing, try spraying brake cleaner on \nthe ends of the throttle shafts where they meet the throttle body. If \nthe idle changes speed, you need new seals. To replace them, you need to\n remove the two screws on the throttle plate, which may require grinding\n since the screws are peened over. Then remove the bell crank from one \nend of the shaft as well as the spring. Pull the shaft out of the \nthrottle body to access where the seals go. Take pictures and notes, as \nit is difficult to reinstall those springs correctly.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eTo help technicians keep track of which seals have been replaced, we \nhad them made in red (and besides, doesn't red make everything go \nfaster?). These seals are the same in all models, as well as most \nthrottle bodies and carbs in Japanese bikes.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong style=\"color: #ff0000;\"\u003e**IMPORTANT: Not a trivial task to \ninstall these due to the amount of disassembly required. Also, the \nbutterfly plate screws are peened over, requiring the ends of the screws\n to be ground off.
