Overview
The SM5 helmet is the result of more than five years of intensive study, development, and testing. Based on Alpinestars' five decades of protection development, this helmet incorporates a lightweight outer shell constructed from a technologically advanced, impact-resistant thermoplastic available in two shell sizes. The inner and outer surfaces are specifically engineered to minimize the effects of oblique impacts, while the side shell coupled with soft EPS foam prevents damage to the collarbone in the event of a crash.
Engineered for maximum performance and rider comfort, the helmet features a sophisticated ventilation system. The visor has been designed to direct air into the ports for enhanced airflow, while multiple air inlets and exhaust ports ensure maximized ventilation and high levels of heat transfer exchange. For long-distance performance, hydration tube channels are integrated directly into the helmet’s cheek pads.
Safety and fit are paramount in the design. The multiple density inner liner ensures the correct density in the correct area for enhanced impact absorption, complemented by stainless steel D-rings to ensure a tight and secure fit. The patented visor release system ensures the visor is released with the correct pre-determined amount of force, irrespective of the angle of impact. Additionally, an emergency release system permits the safe and easy removal of the 3D contoured cheek pads while the helmet is still being worn.
